The Best Duck Soup in Gwangju – A Full Review of Yeongmi Ori-tang

🦆 Gwangju Duck Soup Experience — Yeongmi Ori-tang

When we planned our Gwangju trip, one of the things we were most excited about was trying ori-tang (duck soup).
Gwangju is famous as the hometown of duck dishes, and there’s even an entire street known as Duck Soup Alley, packed with beloved local spots.

Among them, we visited the most popular one — Yeongmi Ori-tang (영미오리탕).

As soon as we arrived, the place was buzzing with locals and tourists alike. That’s always a good sign.

🍲 What We Ordered & How It Was

  • Half Duck Soup (Ori-tang 반마리) – 40,000 KRW
We ordered half a portion for two people, and it was more than enough.
We actually considered ordering rice, but the portion was so generous that we had to skip it.
Still, I could totally imagine how amazing the duck soup would be with a bowl of rice on the side.
  • Extra Broth – 3,000 KRW (★First refill is free)
It’s common to ask for extra broth when eating duck soup, and luckily, the first refill is free.
  • Extra Water Parsley (minari) – 3,000 KRW
We loved the water parsley so much, we ordered an extra portion.
Tip: Don’t overcook it! It tastes best when lightly blanched — still crunchy, fragrant, and fresh.
If you boil it too long with the duck, it can get a bit tough.

🐣 So… How Was It?

In a word: amazing.
The broth was deep and savory, and the duck was tender and full of flavor.
This is the kind of dish you can only find in Gwangju, and it’s absolutely a must-try.

And let’s not forget the side dishes — every single one was delicious.
No frills, just clean, home-style flavors that perfectly complemented the soup.
If only my stomach had more space, I would’ve loved to order rice and go all in. But alas, my small stomach held me back!
